Udupi, Aug 30: Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar math here clarified that the idols of the presiding deities of Shiroor math had not been handed over to Sri Laxmivarateertha Swamiji as he was under the grip of vices like liquor and women. He was speaking at a press conference held at Bengaluru on Wednesday August 29.
"I had lot of affection for Sri Laxmivarateertha Swamiji. Whenever he got into trouble, I readily extended support to him. Those who are ordained in religious services should remain celibate and shun vices like liquor, but Shiroor Swamiji publicly claimed having indulged in both. He used to have liquor at night and perform puja to Lord Krishna in the morning. Even when he offered worship to the Lord, he smelt of liquor in his mouth. How can we accept him as a spiritual head of a math? He behaved against the principles of governing people who have sacrificed their worldly attachments. Therefore, the idols were not given to him," he stated.
The Swamiji said that some had objected to his speaking against Shiroor Swamiji even after his demise. "I just explained when I was questioned about not handing over idols of the presiding deities to him. I personally had no enmity against Shiroor Swamiji and I had come to his rescue many a time. Still, some continue to make allegations against me. The world knows what I am," he stated.
The Swamiji said that Pejawar Math Trust has decided to undertake relief works worth ten lac rupees for flood-affected people of Kerala and Kodagu respectively. He said that after the Chaturmasya, the affected people will be personally contacted and compensation will be distributed.
About Yettinahole, he said that advice from scientists should be obtained as there are several doubts about the project. About Kasturirangan report implementation also he wanted the government to consult environmentalists and scientists before taking a decision and environmental concern should be exhibited by the government. He added that he is miffed with Congress, BJP and JD(S), all of which have his supporters, because of the efforts being made to unseat the government. He called upon the politicians to work beyond party affiliations for the general good of the people.
