Bengaluru, Aug 29: In an inhuman and dastardly incident reported from Shakambari Nagar in J P Nagar here, a man plucked out both eyes of his aged father from their sockets over property dispute, by using his bare fingers. The incident happened at around 12.30 pm on Tuesday August 28.
The accused, Cheetan Kumar (42) stands arrested for the crime. His father, S Paramesh (66), lost both his eyes in this incident. Paramesh, who stands admitted into a private hospital, has been told by the doctors that he has no chance of getting his eyesight back. The police of J P Nagar have arrested Chetan Kumar alias Abhishek for this act.
Paramesh was working as deputy director in the directorate of Kannada translations. He retired five years back. He has three children including a daughter. Chetan is the eldest of his children. Paramesh's wife had died recently. Chetan, who is unmarried, happens to be a liquor addict. He had deserted home ten years back, but had recently returned. Paramesh has a two-storied residence in Shakambari Nagar. His two other children, Chandan and Chaitra, both of whom are married, are on their own.
Paramesh's wife, Vasanta Kumari, had died exactly a month back. Therefore, on Wednesday August 29, ritual connected with the month's mind was planned. Paramesh was preparing for the same. Chaitra, who came to her parental home at 10.30 am on Tuesday to help her father, went away to the city market to put together pulses, vegetables, and puja items needed for the programme. She had left behind her five-year-old son with his grandfather.
Veerabhadraiah, friend of Paramesh, said that Paramesh, who rushed to the balcony with bleeding eyes, was found shouting for help. The neighbours went up to his home and found Paramesh aimlessly rushing here and there. One of his eyes had fallen on the bed while the other was lying in the balcony, he explained.
Deputy commissioner of police of city south division, Sharanappa, said that accused Chetan Kumar, stands arrested, murder attempt case has been registered against him, and investigation is being carried out.
