Mangaluru: Cricket controversy - youth attacked, two persons arrested

Mangaluru, Aug 27: A gang assaulted a youth in a bid to murder him on the night of Saturday, August 25 at Ulaibettu near here. Police have arrested two people in this connection. One accused is absconding.

Suhas (27) and Sagar (23), both residents of Shivarathribettu near Ulaibettu are the arrested accused persons. Pramod (27) is absconding.

Pramith (26) is the person who was seriously injured in the attack and he is being treated in a hospital in the city.

Details of the incident

A verbal argument had taken place between two groups quite some time ago over the issue of a cricket match. There was growing animosity between the members of these gangs and abuses being hurled at one another every now and then. It is alleged that on Saturday, When Pramith was returning home from work along with his friend Yathish, was stopped by Suhas, Sagar and Pramod and they hurled abuses at him. After some time, Pramith along with another friend of his Karthik approached the trio and questioned them on the earlier issue. When the arguments were going on, it is learnt, that the rural police personnel, who got the information arrived at the spot and all the youths escaped from the spot.

After the verbal argument, it is said that Pramith went home and was sleeping. At night, Suhas, Sagar and Pramod trespassed into the compound of Pramith's house and yelled at him to come out of the house. When Pramith came out of the house, it is said that the trio thrashed him and assaulted with stone and knives. The inmates of Pramith's house, who got awakened by the noise of arguments and screams, raised a hue and cry at which the accused escaped from the spot.

Police later arrested Suhas and Sagar.

Search for the escaped Pramod is on.

A case stands registered in this connection by the police.
