Udupi, Aug 26: A bicycle rally was held in the city on Sunday, August 26, as a prelude for the two-month long campaign to create awareness against drug addiction, jointly organized by Udupi district police, Udupi district working journalists' association and Udupi press club.
The jatha was flagged off by Laxman Nimbargi, SP of Udupi district, Jayakar Shetty, chief manager, Badagabettu cooperative society and the directors of the society.
Speaking in the stage programme after the jatha, Laxman Nimbargi said, "No sickness will attack a human being if he or she will keep on exercising. It is possible to keep physical fitness coupled with creating awareness in the society through cycling. Cycling has concern for the environment also. Let us not limit this exercise to one day, but continue till the end of our life. Let us continue the campaign against drug addiction. This two-month campaign has got good response from the public and various organizations of the district of Udupi. If this campaign needs to be successful, then those who are addicted should give up the same. No one should come under the dragnet of drug addiction."
Santhosh Saralebettu, secretary of Udupi district working journalists' association said, "We only get involved in our work in media. This is the first opportunity of a different kind in which we will be working for the betterment of the society. Mind is completely satisfied."
Umanath, vice-president of Badagubettu cooperative society, Kumarachandra, addition SP, Nagaraja Rao, convener, Udupi press club were present on the occasion.
Badagubettu cooperative society, Indian Medical Association, Udupi and cycling associations of Udupi and Kundapur cooperated for the success of this programme.
