Dharwad, Aug 23: The rain fury that had gained unimaginable intensity since a week in Kerala, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Hassan and Chikkamagaluru districts has abated. But the rain continues to claim lives in the state. On Thursday August 23, two sisters were buried alive as a wall that had become wet came crashing down on them.

This tragic incident happened at Alnavara in Dharwad district. A wall standing adjacent to a house on Mission Road in Alnavara came crashing down and killed two sisters sleeping in the next house. One of the deceased, Shashikala (20), had been married six months back. Her younger sister, Mukta (18), who was sleeping beside Shashikala, was the other person who died in this accident.

It is learnt that the tiles of the adjacent house had been removed for repairs two days back. The walls of the house were open to sky. As the rainfall experienced in the area made the wall wet, it collapsed and caused the two deaths, it is learnt.
