Mangaluru, Aug 24: St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru holds a week long programme ‘Seva Sapthah’ to celebrate the 450th birth anniversary of its patron, St Aloysius Gonzaga from August 20 to 25 in the college. This programme is to commemorate the life and selfless service of St Aloysius Gonzaga.
The theme of the third day of this programme was ‘Go green, Go organic, Plastic free Campus and Waste Management’. To convey this message to the students, the college organized a workshop on ‘Plastic free campus and Fine Arts’. The inauguration of this event was held on August 23 at Fr Robert Sequeira Auditorium. Prof Rajamani Ramakunja, retired professor of Kannada SVS College, Bantwal was the chief guest. Eranna Thippannavar, artist, Prasad Art School, Mangaluru and Dr John D’Silva, director, Xavier Block were the guests of honour. Dr Praveen Martis presided over the programme and workshop coordinator Dr Jyothi Miranda, associate professor, department of Botany were present.
Chief guest Prof Rajamani Ramakunja in his address said that the initiative taken by the college in conducting such workshop on awareness on environment is deeply appreciated. “A clean mind and a clean heart is necessary for a cleaner environment. Students should make an attempt to make a plastic-free environment. Mother Nature is parent, guide and nurse.” He explained how students can convey the message of environmental conservation through fine arts and participating in plastic-free campus workshop. He urged the students to promote 3 R’s i.e. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Addressing the students, Dr John D’ Silva urged the students to make proper usage of time through skillful activities like fine arts.
Dr Praveen Martis, principal, urged and encouraged the students to involve in maintaining a plastic free campus. He insisted the group of students to become role model to the rest of the students in the campus in his presidential address.
Chinmayee and team conducted the prayer. Workshop coordinator Dr Jyothi Miranda, associate professor, department of Botany welcomed and introduced the guests. Olinda compered the programme. Rashmi, assistant professor, department of Botany rendered the vote of thanks.
