Bengaluru: Six students arrested on charges of ragging juniors

Bengaluru, Aug 23: Six senior students of a college in the city were arrested by the police on Wednesday August 22 on charges of ragging their juniors.

There were allegations of six senior students of Oxford College here having taken away two of their juniors residing in a hostel at Bommanahalli to their residence and ragging them on the night of August 17. A case was also registered relating to this incident at Bommanahalli police station.

Two students had got admitted into this college for pursuing D-Pharma course. Sources said that six friends, who are seniors to these two students in the same college, forcibly took the duo away to a house on Mangammana Palya Road where they reside. It is said that they coerced the juniors by ordering them to obey them. They also locked the door of the house from inside to make sure the juniors did not escape and got the two students to do things like dancing, singing, mopping the floor etc for several hours, at the same time, mocking them continuously. It is said that after harassing the juniors under the influence of ganja till 2.30 am, they drove them out, duly threatening them against revealing the matter to anyone.

The students who felt insulted and humiliated brought the matter to the notice of the college principal and then complained to Bommanahalli police station. The police, who have arrested the six students named in the complaint are continuing the investigation.
