Mangaluru: Murder of aged woman - court acquits accused

Mangaluru, Aug 23: In relation to the murder of Susheela Ben (72), who was residing in a house opposite the service station at Bhoja Rao Lane, Alake, Kudroli here in 2014, the court has exonerated the accused. Siddappa (32) from Belagavi, who was charged with this murder, has been allowed to walk free by the third additonal district and sessions court here.

The police had charged Siddappa of entering the residence of Susheela on the night of July 31, 2014 by opening the rear door, and then murdering the woman who was sleeping inside, using a knife. They had said that he had stolen gold ornaments belonging to the woman and stolen a car that was parked in the compound of the house.

The crime had come to light the next morning. Kadri police, who registered the case, investigated it. In the meanwhile, police personnel of Urva station here had arrested two persons from KSRTC bus stand at Bijai here in connection with another case. One of them, Siddappa, who had worked as watchman at the said bus stand, had confessed to the police that he had murdered Susheela Ben and stolen her gold ornaments. On the basis of this confession, a chargesheet was prepared against Siddappa and submitted to the court.

The court however, came to the conclusion that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges.
