Bengaluru, Aug 23: Police personnel of Whitefield police station here have succeeded in arresting a man who allegedly murdered a woman software engineer from New Delhi, Vijayalaxmi (23) in the city. Allegedly, Vijayalaxmi's lover, Harish alias Roopesh Kumar, had escaped to New Delhi after killing her.

The decomposed body of Vijayalaxmi had been found on August 20. Vijajayalaxmi's father, who repeatedly called her over phone on August 20 morning from New Delhi, got no response. He then contacted the house owner, who went and found that foul smell emanated from inside the rented house. He conveyed information to the police, who broke open the door and found the body of the lady lying on the ground. The police got to know that Vijayalaxmi had introduced a man who visited her on August 16 as her boy friend. As the lady was not seen since August 16, they guessed that Roopesh was the culprit. Therefore they went to New Delhi and arrested him.

Vijayalaxmi was murdered in a rented home at Nagondanahalli here on August 16. The accused had fled to New Delhi after committing this heinous act. The police got clues about Roopesh Kumar on the basis of some information they collected from the lady's cellphone.

Vijayalaxmi, who was from New Delhi, had joined a well-known software company here three months back. She was working at New Delhi earlier, but on her own accord, she came here to work in a new company. The police said that her friend, Roopesh, who she knew since her Delhi days, came to the city on the pretext of meeting her, and fled after killing her.

Vijayalaxmi got to know Roopesh, a gym instructor, at New Delhi. They became friends, but Roopesh wrongly misconstrued their relationship as love, and he used to pester Vijayalaxmi for marriage. He did not like the idea of her shifting base to the city and was angry at the negligence shown towards his demands by her. He also was afraid that he could lose money being provided to him on demand by her once she went away from him.  In all likelihood, these reasons were behind this murder. However, more details will come out after the accused is brought to the city and questioned in detail, the police stated.
