Bantwal, Aug 23: A case of theft at a house in the vicinity of Abbettu, Meramajalu and their relatives was registered about four years ago. Bantwal rural police have successfully arrested the accused in this connection.
Accused Prashanth Poojary alias Jaddu was arrested on August 18 on definite information. As much as 134.35 grams gold was recovered from him. He used to go to the house at Abbettu like a friend and a relative, gain their trust, and watch the place where the family used to keep the key of the house. He used to gain entry into the house using the key when the family was away, open the cupboard, steal gold and cash from there and keep the key back in its place so that nobody suspects him.
The arrested is also accused of entering the house of Abbettu Ramesh Poojary in Meremajalu by breaking the wooden latch of the window behind the house and stealing three gold coins, ear rings weighing four grams and cash Rs 25,000.
He is accused of breaking into the house of Abbettu Hosa Hoklu Ramesh two years ago, and decamping with jewellery weighing 52 grams and cash Rs 15,000.
He is the suspect of stealing 16 grams gold from the house of Abbettu Harinakshi.
He is also accused of breaking the lock of the house of Abbettu resident Sunitha, Meramajalu in 2016, entering the house and stealing 20 grams gold from the cupboard.
He has reportedly stolen 11 grams gold from the house of his aunt Chitrakshi.
He is also accused of stealing 12 grams gold from the house of the son of his aunt, Chetan, in August this year.
The arrest was made by Rishikesh Sonavana, assistant SP, Bantwal sub division, T D Nagaraj, police circle inspector Bantwal, Bantwal rural police station sub inspector Prasanna M S, beat in-charge assistant police sub inspector Rathna Kumar, station head constable Janardan, HC Suresh Kumar, beat staff HC Jayaram K T, HC C Radhakrishna, PC Manoj Kumar, PC Abdul Nazeer and jeep driver Kiran.
