Mangaluru, Aug 22: St Aloysius BEd College, a premier teacher training institute in the city organized a one day seminar on the topic, ‘Developing Flexible Behaviour Patterns and Creativity through Neuroplasticity'.
Fr Dr Roy Pereira SJ, vice principal- academics, St Xavier’s College (autonomous) Mumbai, was the resource person. He defined the concept ‘Neuroplasticity’ and explained the relationship of the brain with the nervous system.
The day-long session continued with experimental evidences of studies of the brain and functioning in the context of the mind-body connection. He also illustrated through different activities the development of creativity and flexible behaviour patterns. Some of the strategies used were getting oneself out of the comfort zone, developing the ability to laugh at oneself. His session also focussed on hope, faith and love as the cornerstone of being persons who are positive and having the ability to love and accept others as they are. He also spoke on the left brain and the right brain functions and also threw light upon research in neuroscience which says that the brain is unsurprisingly much more complicated than a simple left/right binary and that creative thought can be determined by how effectively the brain can communicate between different regions that usually work separately.
Lehera B S and group invoked the blessings of the Almighty. Fr Eric Mathias SJ, director, delivered the welcome address. Lalithanjali delivered the vote of thanks. Dr Farita Viegas, principal, graced the occasion. Fr Nelson compered the seminar.
