Mandya, Aug 22: A sum of Rs 15 lac belonging to State Bank of India's Bandi Gowda extension branch here went missing on Monday August 21. It is suspected that persons who succeeded in diverting the attention of bank employees would have swindled this money.

For the normal transactions of the bank, a sum of Rs 43 lac had been brought out and kept in the cash counter. A verification sometime later revealed that Rs 15 lac had gone missing, and only Rs 28 lac was remaining in the counter. The bank found that Rs 15 lac made up of Rs 500 currency notes had mysteriously disappeared.

A police complaint was filed thereafter. District additional superintendent of police, B N Lavanya, visited the bank and questioned the employees. Sniffer dogs were also pressed into service. CCTV footage showed a person wearing a cap going out of the bank along with 15 other persons.

The police, on questioning, found that a few persons who visited the bank for some transaction in the morning were speaking in Hindi. They have collected the CCTV footage and are searching for the suspects. A case about this incident stands filed at the city police station here.
