Puttur, Jul 16: Department of Public Instruction, office of the Block Education Officer here, in collaboration with NCC wing of St Philomena Educational Institutions recently celebrated fourth International Yoga Day at St Philomena High School auditorium.
The MLA of Puttur Sanjeeva Mathandoor inaugurated the celebration and said, "Yoga is a way to learn and understand spiritual India. It is associated with culture and heritage of India. It has become a mass movement across the globe in the quest for physical and mental health, which is crucial to the creation of a peaceful society."
The assistant commissioner of Puttur, H K Krishnamoorthy participated as the chief guest. He said, "Yoga has become one of the unifying forces in the world."
The president of Puttur taluk panchayat Bhavani Chidanand delivered her presidential address.
The correspondent of St Philomena Educational institutions Fr Alfred J Pinto, principal of St Philomena PU College Fr Vijay Lobo and vice president of Parent Teacher Association of St Philomena High School Dr Vijaya Saraswathi participated as the guests of honour.
Under the guidance of yoga teacher Ramanna Rai, 250 NCC cadets of St Philomena educational institutions demonstrated yoga asanas on the occasion.
NCC Officers Lt Johnson David Sequeira, Peter Naresh Lobo, Clement Pinto, Roshan Sequeira, education coordinator Kukka M, physical education instructors Prakash D’Souza and Rajesh Moolya coordinated the programme.
The BEO of Puttur Sukanya D S welcomed the gathering. The headmaster of St Philomena High School Oswald Rodrigues proposed the vote of thanks. Teacher of St Philomena High School Rajshekhar compered the programme.
