Mangaluru, Apr 21: Srinivas School of Architecture (SSA) students of Srinivas Institute of Technology (SIT) Valachil, here, under the guidance of Dr Shaila Bantanur (IIT Roorkee) once again received the 'Award of Merit' (South Zone) this year.
The award was presented for documenting Zeenath Baksh Masjid at Bunder in the city of Dakshina Kannada district on April 18 at India International Centre, New Delhi.
The objective of the competition was to promote a documentation of heritage buildings and sites of historic, architectural and cultural significance. Students from all architectural colleges across the nation participated in the competition. A team of six students namely Akshay Kumar G K, Santhosh Prabhu T N, Rajat K R, Prajwal Prakash, Adithya Hebbar and Harsha Raj worked extensively for over a month toward this national level competition.
The award function ceremony was organised by Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Heritage Academy. Dr Sachchidananda Saha, who worked extensively on conserving Angkor Wat, Cambodia, L K Gupta, chairman of INTACH, India and Dr C T Misra, member secretary of INTACH were the guests at the event. Eminent architects, heads of schools, teachers, academicians, professionals and students of architecture participated in the event in large numbers.
The team acknowledge the great support of the management committee of Zeenath Baksh Masjid Mangaluru and the principal SIT, Dr Srinivas Mayya D.
