Bengaluru, Apr 16: The BJP on Monday April 16 released its second list of candidates for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections.
The party had released its first list of 72 candidates on April 8.
The second list has names of 82 candidates, taking the total to 154. Altogether, there are 224 constituencies in the state.
Hartalu Halappa, who the Congress had given hints of welcoming, has been given the ticket from Sagar. Katta Subramanya Naidu too has been given the ticket, from Shivajinagar.
In Dakshina Kannada district, Harish Poonja has been given the ticket from Beltangady, Rajesh Naik from Bantwal, and Sanjeev Matandoor, who is also the district BJP president, from Puttur. Amid speculations that Postcard News co-founder Mahesh Vikram Hegde was vying for ticket from Moodbidri, the party decided to play safe and go with Umanath Kotian. Candidates for Mangaluru South, Mangaluru (Ullal) and Mangaluru North are yet to be announced.
The party has still not announced the name of its candidate from Udupi against Congress candidate Pramod Madhwaraj, though it is almost certain that the ticket may go to former BJP MLA Raghupati Bhat. The BJP has not named its candidate from Kaup either, where Congress has fielded sitting MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake. It has however announced in its list that Sukumar Shetty will contest from Byndoor.
