Mangaluru, Apr 9: Nikitha Cutinha, the 16-year-old II PU student of St Aloysius College who was knocked down by a speeding car driven by a woman opposite Derebail Church recently, passed away here on Monday April 9 after battling for life for weeks at a private hospital.
Nikitha who is the daughter of Noreen Crasta, a senior staff nurse of AJ hospital and Jerome Cutinha who works in Saudi Arabia, was waiting for bus on the roadside when the tragic incident occurred. She was in a very critical condition and doctors had reserved a period of 48 hours before giving further opinion on her chances of recovery. She breathed her last on Monday at around 9.45am.
The car was driven by Sharmila, a resident of Bengaluru who owns an apartment at Bejai Kapikad in city.
The rash and negligent driving by the driver was said to be the reason behind the mishap. She sustained major injury to her head resulting in haemorrhage and severe bleeding.
She was immediately shifted to AJ hospital by a Good Samaritan and was operated upon by reputable neurosurgeons of the hospital.
