Bengaluru: 'Repeating a lie does not make it true' - Siddaramaiah rebuts Amit Shah on central aid

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Apr 1: 'Repeating a lie does not make it true', tweeted Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reacting to BJP national president Amit Shah’s allegations that Karnataka government deprived people of the 14th Financial Commission funds.

On March 30, a video clipping of Amit Shah shared on BJP’s official Twitter handle, has the BJP chief stating that Karnataka got Rs 88,583 crore under the 13th Finance Commission under the UPA government, while, the BJP-led government gave the state Rs 2,19,506 crore under the 14th Finance Commission. "It is the right of the people of Karnataka but why did Congress deprive them of it?" he questioned.

Siddaramaiah did not take Shah’s allegations lightly, and accused that the ignorance displayed by the BJP and its president as 'deliberate'. "I have explained this several times but the BJP keeps repeating the lie," he tweeted.

He called BJP’s comparison of increase of funds from 88,583 crore to 2,19,506 crore as an 'apple to orange comparison'.

"You are comparing 2 different periods. Due to inflation and tax growth, revenues rise by 10-15% every year. Plus devolution % was changed from 32 to 42%. But center reduced its share of central schemes," he tweeted.

Siddaramaiah further explained, "Devolution of central funds to states is a constitutional duty of the center and the funds are a right of all states. Finance Commissions decide formula for fund sharing and the states get the funds. It is not a gift of UPA or NDA. This has been the practice since 1950. These funds are not a special grant to Karnataka. All states receive it. Funds so received go into our state budget. I have presented 5 budgets with a total outlay of about 9,00,000 crores. This outlay is funded by Finance Commission grants, own tax revenue and borrowing."

Answering to BJP’s query on where the money went, Siddaramaiah said the answer is irrigation, schools, hospitals, roads and highways, railway lines, crop insurance, farm loan waiver and the list goes on.

He said the BJP should stop "lying and fooling people" as all these accounts were presented, debated and approved through 15 legislature sessions. Account for every rupee is presented before the legislature. The leader of opposition Jagdeesh Shettar is aware of this, he said.

He also took a dig at Karnataka BJP, asking if they were 'sleeping' for 5 years. "Did they sleep through the 15 Legislature sessions where all these accounts were presented, debated and approved? So, please stop fooling the people. Repeating a lie does not make it true," tweeted the CM.

He also told Shah that he was insulting his own leaders of opposition in the two houses Jagdeesh Shettar and K S Eshwarappa, with his silly questions. "What you are saying is they didn’t do their job asking for these accounts," Siddaramaiah ridiculed.

Karnataka people are intelligent and educated. Cannot become puppets in the hands of a few lairs. The questions one need to ask himself or herself :
What good has come out in the past four years of rule?
Where is the development of people?
Whose income or saving potential has increased?
Where is the peace and harmony?
    Evaluate and chose wisely.

CM SIddaramaiah, One slide of just using taxes on petroleum products levied can bust Amit Shah lies.

The narrative that each state government gets 42% of the excise duty collected by the Central government is not true. Karnataka share is just 4.713% from every liter the center selling out 42%.

Unfortunately none of the opposition parties including your own Congress has not educated voters about the multiple layer taxes levied on petrol/Diesel which in turn used to offset the shortfall in budget.

Sir, The 14th Finance Commission Report recommended that 42% of the taxes collected by the Centre belonging to the divisible pool should be shared with the states.
Ask Amit Shah what is the Karnataka share for every liter petrol/Diesel sold in state?
How much is collected in taxes in last four years is payable by Central Government to the state?

Common citizens of India don't understand the complex economy. It is the mass media and opposition political party need to present to the citizens.
Unfortunately in Karnataka none of the mass media has shown interest affecting normal man's out of pocket budget.

agreed that Indian taxation & Centre-State financial distribution is a tough subject to understand...but except petrol, all items/services for which GST is paid 50% directly goes to the state govt... there is no question in that.. but if state govt distribute money for unwanted bhagyas & only to certain community people how will the whole state people be benefited ? What has he done to get more manufacturing units/IT comps ?? Comps are going to Andhra/Telangana/TN due to better Infra... State govt shld be capable to generate own revenue & not beg to central govt.... this applies to all states whether ruled by BJP or Congress or any other party

Whether Shah blames of Rahul blames, it is time to hold our politicians and government accountable as to the use of funds. It is ridiculous to be told a small bridge costs 100 crores, a small work cost 60 crores while only the fraction of the money is used, the rest pocked by political middlemen. Time to time, the government has to publish in news papers about all projects initiated, in progress, money sanctioned and money already used. Otherwise any party comes, business as usual.

Got caught. Now he is adding up 10 to 15 % inflation. Still is much higher than the grant karnataka received under UPA. I don’t think common man’s salary is raised by same proportion to take care of inflation.

If the GDP formula applied by Modi led Govt for all previous years, under UPA it was over 12percent, even surpassing China. Modi knew he can't beat UPA with economics, he changed the economic theory to fakenomics, to get himself distinction. No doubt, that his cabinet collegues have Yale university degree, but no enrollment.

It took a while for people to understand the MODIfried version of fakinomics, as it is hitting them below the belt, the longer they tolerate, the hits are going to be harder, as we know already with high petrol prices. All are gifts of BJP, for all of us, whose calendar date is stuck to April 1st since 2014.
