Mangaluru, Mar 26: MLA J R Lobo on Monday, March 26 laid the foundation stone for the construction of new Kadri market complex worth Rs 12.30 crore at Mallikatta here.
Addressing the gathering, MLA J R Lobo said, "It is a happy moment for the customers and shop owners of Kadri market today. It was long-pending demand as shop owners were frequently stepping into MCC office demanding the development of Kadri market. We thought of rebuilding the market complex. Hence, MCC engineers took 2-3 years to design the project.
"It was quite a task to sanction funds for such a huge project. The cabinet has approved and sanctioned Rs 5 crore. At present, the budget of this project is Rs 12.30 crore which might increase to Rs 16 crore, thanks to GST. We will also build an alternative market at a cost of Rs 60 lac, so that shop owners can shift their business there before the construction of the new market complex.
"We are not only developing Kadri market, but also Urwa and Alake market, which are in its final stage of completion. Urwa market will be inaugurated soon. Bejai market has already been completed. Urwa Store market development will also be taken up. Central market development will also be taken up under Smart City project," he said.
Mayor Bhaskar Moily, deputy mayor Mohammed, corporator Naveen D’Souza, Praveen Chandra Alva, Sabitha Misquith and others were present.
