Bengaluru Jan 16: Two miscreants snatched the gold chains of three women in North Bengaluru on Monday, January 15. One of the victims is the wife of a police inspector.
The first victim is Gangamma, the wife of Kenchegowda, an inspector at the state police headquarters. Gangamma was watering plants at her residence in HMT Layout, Peenya, when a motorcycle appeared in front of her house.
The pillion rider got down from the vehicle and came towards Gangamma. He suddenly came closer and tried to snatch her chain. When Gangamma resisted his efforts and held onto the chain, the man turned violent. He dragged her to the gate, snatched the chain and fled from the spot.
Kenchegowda who was inside the house came out after he heard his wife screaming. He rushed out of the house and went after the culprits. But they managed to flee from the place.
Police said the chain-snatchers were wearing caps and that the incident had been caught on CCTV camera.
The next victim was Sougandhita. Sougandhita was drawing rangoli outside her home in Brindavana Layout near Bagalagunte. The men approached her on the pretext of enquiring about an address. As the woman looked at an address scribbled on a paper, they snatched her chain weighing 42 grams and fled.
The gang's third victim was Sharadamma who was on the way to a temple. The attackers dragged her on the road until she parted with the jewellery.
Police said they suspect an Irani gang behind all the three incidents.
