Mangaluru, Jan 15: A tragedy was averted after a city bus that was moving towards the city from the direction of Kulur on Monday January 15 morning, went out of the control of its driver and tilted to one side just short of plunging off the road.

Driver of the private city bus which does routine trips on this road lost control over the bus when the bus was passing over the old bridge at Kulur.

Luckily, it stopped after tilting to the side on the edge of the road. The passengers had a providential escape.

It is learnt that the 59 number Ave Maria bus went over a pothole, as a result of which its main blade snapped and the vehicle went out of control. The bus then dashed into the bridge wall before coming to a stop perilously close to the edge.

A lady passenger sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

Traffic was affected for about 45 minutes following the accident.

I was following about this stretch of NH66 (WORST CONDITION of Highway) from Sept-17 with NHAI and lastly took up this with Ministry Level and got answer from Director, PIU - Mangalore stating that Repair work started from 04-01-2018. But so far still MANY POTHOLES are still not repaired. Even i have mentioned that RAILING of River Bridge is broken and POLICE barrier erected across road. We feel very bad when even informing Goverment Authorities do not take seriously and then distributes Public Fund for VICTIMS. Instead these AMOUNT should be properly utilized to avoid such INCIDENTS. We hope at least after this INCIDENT, NHAI will work and RESOLVE this.

Its really a miracle that none of the passengers have got serious injuries. its because the bus was hanging over the bridge. If it had fallen or plunged into river there would hav been a big tragedy. thank God for saving the lives of many.

I was one among the bystanders who had to go through the negligence of the driver.

Merely it could have taken a life of many co travelers including me. 59 number buses normally ply between chithrapura to statebank. Everyday I travel in the same bus and today unluckily I had to be the direct victim of the incident. like me there were many people including senior citizens , students in the bus . It is common that we the travel have to risk our life everyday because of these rash driving, overtake, competition.
I still can’t come out from the shocking experience I went through in the morning .Now I am here commenting for the bad start of the day. I Thank god for saving the valuable life’s of many. it was our rebirth and from this what we can lean is Reckless driving of the bus driver could take the life of many. Humble request to all the bus driver to take the responsibility of reaching many of travelers safe to their destination . They board the bus trusting the driver that they will make is to reach the destination safely not killing our life.

From Baikampady to Kuloor road is unworthy for even walking...full of potholes and rough stretches. I blame MP first as the road belongs to NH. Secondly MLA's to be blamed for not exerting pressure on MP's! Why they are collecting Toll on this road??? Isn't there anyone to question this malpractice??? Newly laid road near RCF has the top layer flipped off at most areas! Do not blame it on heavy trucks. The new tarmac layer is just one inch thick! Is that the specification for new tarmac on NH or specification is swallowed and pocketed??? Who will answer to victims of this bad road??? We blame British.....but British built Kuloor bridge is still serving good without any maintenance compared to newly built Indian bridges!! If general public show resistance...PWD or NH authorities may wake up a bit...not sure if they will attend it...they will release statement of assurance!!!

Accidents after accidents, accidents after accidents !!!

Some excuse is ready - now its the pothole?

Its the pothole in the traffic system in mangalore

aren't the traffic police doing anything? most drivers talk over the phone when driving, never do they let the passengers board the bus safely, above all the lightening speed.

Stop roping in God - we need to use common sense

There are several potholes on this stretch of road and it is really difficult for vehicles to manoeuvre around these. These potholes have been there for ages and temporary repairs are done just after a major accident.
There is a "Anegundi" type of pothole just at the entrance of the road that leads to panambur beach and I am sure the next major accident will happen there. The NHAI is inefficient or corrupt, because they have been allocated money to maintain these roads but the work has not been done.
