Mangaluru, Jan 14: Mangaluru city police have arrested one person for allegedly circulating the picture of a girl on Facebook and demeaning her reputation and threatening a youth from another community.
The arrested accused has been identified as Sri Hari alias Harish Devadiga (22), a resident of Beltangady.
Harish was arrested at Pumpwell here. The police have confiscated his mobile phone.
A few more accused are expected to be arrested in the case and further investigation is on.
The girl, Madhuri Bolar, who is also the secretary of Student Federation of India (SFI), had filed a complaint with the city police commissioner alleging that right-wing activists had circulated an old picture of hers on Facebook showing her in the company of her male fellow SFI members Hamza and . Madhuri in her compaint had said that being SFI members, they had gone on a work related tour, but some anti-social elements misused her picture and circulated it on social media. The accused also had specifically pointed out at Hamza and called upon others to 'teach him a lesson' for mingling with a girl of Hindu community.
"The selfie is almost a year old, when all of us were travelling in a bus to a camp. The picture that is making rounds has Suhas Adiga and Ganesh Bolar as well. However, the rumour mongers have targeted only me and Hamza," Madhuri had said.
