Most snake-catching 'experts' in India are self-taught.

If they managed to catch the first snake and lived to tell the tale, they become well-known and get the tag of an 'expert'. The self-taught snake-handlers handle the snakes with no safety precautions whatsoever.

Snakes generally look for the limbs - legs, hands etc - to strike. Ideally a snake-handler must have their limbs fully protected, so that the fangs do not penetrate.

What is amazing to know is that such snake-handlers do not have ready access to anti-venom (or do they just ignore treatment?).

Basic protection is most important in such activities...
Like protection to limbs and basic antidotes...
When men become experts in trade they tend to be a bit callous towards safety aspects...
Very sad to loose a brave young man...
My prayers to God to bless him and his dear ones...

    RIP brother...

Very sad news that Dolphi is no more. He was well known to everybody around Moodbidri by his helping nature. Most of the snake catchers life ends in a similar way. Even though it is helpful to general public, in the mean time they risking their lives. Any way RIP Dolphi your good work will be remembered for ever.

First make sure what kind of snake it is. Second, contact the closest hospital if they have antidote for this particular snake bite, in case of emergency. Third go in for the catch after taking all safety precautions. ... sad to say, people consider safety a secondary issue, in spite of innumerable shows on animal planet etc.

This is absolutely the right approach
    please be prepare with antidotes
His life could have been saved
All social workers and snake and animal rescuers should be given free antidotes from Panchayat or municipalities and reimbursed
