Mangaluru, Dec 11: The Human Rights Cell in collaboration with department of Political Science conducted a workshop on Legal Literacy commemorating Human Rights Day on December 9.

Fr Dr Melwyn S Pinto, the director of Radio Sarang, inaugurated the gathering laying emphasis on how students and common people can actively participate in governance through a simple procedure like Right to Information.

Dr Rose Veera D’Souza, the guest of honour, congratulated the participants for their keen interest in knowing the law. Participating in very good numbers the students of St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) Mangaluru heard experts on civil, criminal and cyber laws. Speaking on ‘Criminal Justice in India’,

Senior advocate S P Chengappa said that laws affect us from birth to death and later too. He explained in particular the Karnataka University Act that governs our students. Meanwhile Advocate Udayananda A focussed on the important freedoms of Article 19 while addressing on ‘Right to Information and Property Rights in India’. Assistant professor of SDM Law College, Ravindra Rajput enlightened the students on Right to Privacy in cyberage. Driving home the point that there was zero privacy it was upto the people to self-regulate themselves in the cyberage.

Golden Star Lakra compered the programme. While Maria Shaila, the president of Human Rights Cell welcomed the gathering and Jessin, secretary of Human Rights Cell thanked the gathering.
