Puttur, Nov 28: “Life is a large playground. Sports persons face various challenges in this playground. Similarly several challenges come up in our daily lives. Everybody should develop self confidence to face them,” said Puttur block education officer Sukanya D N. She was speaking on November 24 after inaugurating the annual sports tournament held at St Philomena College ground under the leadership of Mai de Deus Higher Primary School under the aegis of St Victor English Medium School and St Victor Girls High School after releasing balloons into the sky.
“Students have several opportunities concerning their careers at present. But it is necessary to know how many of those opportunities are being made use of by the students. Sport is an indivisible part of life. Hard work with regard to sports will undoubtedly make a person a sports star. The part of the educational institutes here which provides disciplined education for the last 32 years is praiseworthy. May sports persons who can bring about a change in the society in the next ten years get molded here,” she said.
Mai de Deus group of educational institutes’ convener Fr Alfred John Pinto garlanded the statue of founder of the institutes, Fr Antony Patrao, hoisted the flag and said that values inculcated by a student helps a person to be a responsible citizen later in his life. “Indulging in sports develops challenging spirit. It helps in learning policies and know mutual love,” he said.
Students in uniforms of their respective schools held flags and went on attractive march past. School leader Shamitha prompted the vows to the sports persons.
St Victor Girls High School headmistress Rosline Lobo, parent teacher association vice- president and taluk panchayat member Usha Anchan, St Victor English Medium Primary School headmaster Harry D' Souza, parent teacher association vice-president Antony Oliver, Mai de Deus higher primary school parent teacher association vice-president Balachandra Sorake, Mai de Deus Church parish pastoral council vice-president J P Rodrigues were present on the dais. Mai de Deus Higher Primary School students invoked God’s blessings. Headmistress Janet D'Souza welcomed the gathering and teacher Juliet Tauro delivered the vote of thanks. Teacher Subbaraju Shastri compered the programme.
