Bengaluru, Oct 16: A rowdy sheeter who was trying to escape after stabbing a police constable with a dagger, was shot at and injured by the police. The police were forced to open fire as the fleeing ruffian did not heed to their warnings to surrender.
In this incident, which happened at around 2.40 am on Sunday October 15, Halasur station inspector, Subrahmanya, fired at rowdy sheeter, Kartik, who stands hospitalized.
The police had set up barricades and were checking vehicles near DAS quarters within the limits of their police station in the early hours on Sunday when rowdy sheeter, Karthik, came on a motor bike from the direction of Domlur. He was heading toward his residence in Gautamapura. When constable, Basavaraj Kanija, who stopped Kartik, attempted to check his belongings, Kartik shouted at him, duly warning him that being a rowdy sheeter it is advisable for the policeman to allow him to go, and warning him that they will regret if he is not allowed to go. Kartik, who felt challenged, tried to take away the key of Basavaraj's motor bike, when Kartik took out his dagger and inflicted injury on the hands of Basavaraj before fleeing.
Basavaraj gave this information to his station over wireless. A police team led by Halasur inspector, Subrahmanya, which was on night duty nearby, chased Kartik. They cornered Basavaraj within 15 minutes near the Gurdwara on M G Road and asked him to surrender, besides firing in the air. Kartik, who disagreed to the proposal, tried to attack the police with pepper spray and dagger in an attempt to flee. With no other option left, inspector, Subrahmanya, fired at him with his revolver, injuring the rowdy sheeter in the right leg, and then arrested him, said a senrior official of the department.
Injured constable, Basavaraj, is being treated in Hosmat Hospital. Kartik has also been hospitalized. The official said that once he is discharged, Kartik will be taken into custody for murder attempt on government employee on duty.
