Mangaluru, Oct 13: Upa Lokayukta, Justice Subhash B Adi, instructed the concerned to seize contract carriage buses that are moving around the city and other places in contravention of law, and take suitable action against them.
The divisional controller of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) had complained about contract carriages buses moving around without valid permits, entering the city without permission and visiting State Bank bus stand although they do not have the right to do so. But regional transport officials had ignored these complaints, for the reason that they do not have enough space to keep the seized vehicles.
During the hearing conducted on Wednesday at the Circuit House here, the Upa Lokayukta said that deputy commissioner of the district, KSRTC, regional transport office and police department should conduct joint operations against contract carriages flouting rules. He also asked the officials to identify space for keeping the vehicles so taken over.
When a citizen complained that only one private bus is operating in Manila near Vittal and that it has not been plying as per its timing, thus creating problems for students and citizens, the Upa Lokayukta asked KSRTC officials to introduce government bus there. The officials immediately agreed to this instruction.
The Upa Lokayukta, who took up the complaint made against the commissioner of Puttur municipal council by the president there, asked Prasanna, project director of district urban development cell to investigate the complaint and take suitable action.
He also directed the forest and revenue department officials to conduct a joint survey at Beltangady and mark the borders of the forest land within a month. He also instructed subdivisional officer here and deputy director of mines and geology to conduct joint survey about the complaint of problems being created by a stone quarry near Kolambe, Bajpe.
