Belthangady, Oct 12: “Blindness is caused due to various factors. It is not possible to provide eye sight to all of them. But the organ that can be donated after death is the eye. In this way help to enlighten lives,” said government public hospital ophthalmologist Dr Vidyarani.
She was speaking as the resource person of eye sight day programme 'Andha Nadige' (blind walk) held at Ambedkar Bhavan, here on Thursday, October 12.
“Anybody can donate eyes at any age. There are eye banks at Deralakatte Kshema hospital and Father Muller's hospital. If a person registers his name and his death is informed within seven hours, doctors remove the eyes through operation and preserve them in eye bank. The eyes will be donated to beneficiaries within next two days. Only the layer of the eye will be used and not the entire eye,” she said.
