Kundapur, Oct 12: Kundapur taluk panchayat in its ordinary meeting held on Wednesday, October 11 decided to do away with the 'Matru Purna Scheme' that provides meals for pregnant women and women who newly delivered babies and reinstate the food kits for women.
The members in the meeting said that pregnant women were not interested in going to Anganwadi for meals. “The response for the inauguration of the scheme also was not positive. People here take extra care of pregnant women and do not allow them to come out of the house after seven months of pregnancy and till three months after delivery. Besides the eating custom here is boiled rice. Therefore let the previous scheme of providing food kits for women continue,” they urged.
Vidhana parishad member Kota Srinivas Poojary asked the officials to convey their decision to continue with earlier scheme to the concerned officials.
Uniforms, text books yet to be provided
Member of Uppunda constituency, said that uniforms have not been provided to 40 female students of their school and text books are not issued even after almost half the academic year is over. Kota Srinivas Poojary asked for clarification from education officer. The officer said that 15,000 clothes were ordered and only 13,000 clothes had arrived and 2,000 were yet to be received. Umesh Shetty, a member said that text books are yet to be received. The education officer admitted that 3% text books are pending. Kota Srinivas Poojary who was annoyed said that requests for uniforms and books had to be submitted continuously to the higher officials through deputy director of public instruction.
No water for water providers
“There is no water for those who provide water for the Varahi project. Water goes to Udupi but there is no water in places near Varahi, such as Shanker Narayana and Amparu. Agriculture and dairy farming has stopped in area to the right of Varahi. We will protest at Varahi canal if water is not provided in next fifteen days,” warned Umesh Shetty.
Pushparaj said that a grama panchayat member works as a Akshara Dasoha cook and an Asha activist shoulders three responsibilities. He urged for a solution.
“Victims from Malnad, Kullunje and Bellala region are left out from the list of Endosulfan victims. There were 12 physically challenged in Keradi during 1980-82 and there are 62 such victims now. Therefore victims in those three villages should be included in the list of victims,” said Umesh Shetty.
Uday G Poojary informed about the approval of Kumki land under 94C. Members urged the education officer to visit schools in villages and rectify anomalies.
Taluk panchayat president Jayashree Mogaveera presided over the meeting. Vice president Praveen Shetty, social justice committee president Mahendra Poojary, executive officer Dr Nagabhooshana Udupa and tahsildar G M Borker were present.
