MUMBAI, Jun 12: A co-pilot of IndiGo Airlines was on Thursday arrested on charges of abetting the suicide of an air hostess employed with the private carrier last week.
Arjun Menon was apprehended following a complaint of abetment to suicide filed by the deceased Suchitra Anand's (25) brother Manish on Thursday, police said.
Anand, who had recently filed a divorce application in a Delhi court, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself inside a room in Hotel Palm Grove in suburban Santacruz on the night of June 7.
The Santacruz police station had initially registered a case of accidental death. Anand, a Delhi resident, had been working for the low-cost airline for the last one year and ended her life during a stopover in the metropolis.
"We had called Anand's family members for recording their statements. In his statement, Manish has said the family suspects Menon as Suchitra had been having interaction with him for some time and secondly, he was the last person seen with her," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IX) Niket Kaushik said.
Asked as to why her husband was not shown as a suspect, Kaushik said, "filing for a divorce has nothing to do with a criminal act like suicide. Menon has been arrested based upon the family's statements."
Menon reportedly had dinner with Anand on Saturday after which the airhostess had gone to her room.
