Puttur: Economics dept of SPC organises farm visit

Puttur, Oct 4: Department of PG studies in Economics, St Philomena College Puttur, on September 28 organised a farm visit programme.

Under this programme, students visited the farm land of B K Parameshwara Rao Kukkavu at Mittabagilu village of Belthangaday Taluk in Dakshina Kannada District.

While interacting with the students B K Parameshwara Rao said, "Paddy cultivation is conducive to ground water recharge and is the best method of water harvesting. In this era of urbanization and industrialization, interest in paddy cultivation has been declining very steeply. Necessary measures are needed to preserve the existing fields and promote paddy cultivation."


    








Later, the students witnessed as many as 184 paddy variants, vegetables, flowers and fruits which were grown without the use of any chemical fertilizers.

The programme was organized by the department to give an opportunity to students to acquire first hand knowledge about agricultural crops.

Faculty members of the department Mahitha Kumari M, Sandhya H and Pradeep K S coordinated the programme.
