Kuwait Emir commutes death sentence of 15 Indians to life imprisonment

New Delhi, Sep 30 (PTI): Death sentences handed down to 15 Indians lodged in a Kuwaiti jail have been commuted to life imprisonment by the Emir of Kuwait, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said today.

Swaraj said the Emir has also directed that the sentences of 119 Indian nationals be reduced.

"The Emir of Kuwait has been pleased to commute the sentence of 15 Indian nationals from death to life imprisonment," she tweeted.

Swaraj thanked the Emir of Kuwait for his "kind" gesture and said the Indian Embassy in that country will extend assistance to the Indian nationals who will be released from jails.

    Life often wants to forgive...
Inner conscience never wants to kill a killer...
But external brain and pressures from those around make the difference...
Sick mind needs nurturing and treatment...
Keep the guys in captivity and reform them...
Killing again will never stop anyone killing again....

Feel pity on the prisoners.whoever it is whatever the crime is,death sentence is something to shiver. Now it is turnedout to life long imprisonment is good to hear.In this country ,a hard punishment will be given I heard.Knowing it still people indulge in crimes is cant understand. Now they have to bear it .no money ,job ,no family life ,but now life long prison .God give them enough help to bear it.with fault or not I cant tell.but it is hard.Sushmaaji had worked hard here I would say.

Ms. Rita, it's not true that all these prisoners have committed some crimes. Sometimes they are falsely arrested and there is no evidence that they are innocent, some are uneducated, some have no relatives to contact ........ very sad but true.

Because of this type of Indians nature there is no control on crimes at all in India. People in India think killing people looting public money means certifying to become able Indian Politian. Suhmaji is trying to destroy law and order outside India also. Sushmaji you help for the innocents having troubles in foreign countries but not for the offenders please.

God bless the Emir of Kuwait for commuting death sentence to life imprisonment. The State cannot avenge death by death. Death penalty as a punitive measure has failed to curb crime. Attempts need to be made to reform the prisoner which can happen when the prisoner serves life sentence.

    People,

Sheikh Sabha, emir of Kuwait was Foreign Minister of Kuwait from its independence in February 25th 1961 till its invasion by Iraq on August 2, 1990...

He became Emir couple of years before when his cousin then Emir Sheikh Saad Al Abdullah Al Salem Al Sabah could not handle his functions due to ill health...Sheikh Saad's father Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Al Sabah was responsible for Kuwait becoming a semi- democratic country with elected National Assembly, which one cannot see in any gulf countries till today!!!....

Sheikh Sabah is a very moderate ruler...very soft spoken and kind...

Main Cook of his palace was a Catholic guy, Corda from Mukamar near Belman...I heard a story... When Sheikh Sabha was having breakfast ,,, he found something is missing in taste...his Secretary told him Corda is sick and in hospital...Sabha said send him flower...Normally no ruling family does this to a Cook!!!....

Any way I think Modi should visit Kuwait like he did to other GCC countries like Saudi, UAE and Qatar and try to do more business with Kuwait...So Indians working conditions improve there...

I write this with my experience in living in that country for more than a decade...prior to moving to US...

    ...JH...

If you forgive it is a daily story of people getting raped, sometime even by 23 people. Now death sentence is the best solution.

One of the Indians sentenced to death is actually a victim of fraud and cheating. It is understood an Afghan cheated him by taking a huge amount of money. When the accused demanded back, he refused and killed him in a fit of rage. Many years back a Goan was hanged for killing the driver and conductor of the local bus. The reason was the duo teased and made fun of his wife in the bus. Considering the circumstances that led to the crime, he should have given life sentence. But unfortunately it didn’t happen. Rape is a premeditated intentional crime while it is not the case with every murder.
