We already have land alloted to for the airport at Konaje which is single end approach for both landing and take off. Not many countries have such approach locations. Rather spending on table top, building a new airport shall always be beneficial which can be a separate terminal only for international passengers. Also the old one can be used for domestic purpose. If konaje can be a new airport, I am sure we shall have no issues on the runway length and that bigger aircrafts can land as well. This means more flights from various airlines and can be a direct flight also without any transit connections from rest of the world.

Build a big, beautiful and safe airport at some other place. Leave the existing one for our politicians. They can hold the plane, also manhandle any one and everyone and be accountable to no one.

Once you extend the runway using pillars or landfill the present location is very good. Table top feature is an advantage for approach. They should also install good navigation aids.

At the same time identify level land in between Mangalore and Udipi , aquire it, build the airport in 2 years which has to be funded by State/Central/AAI/Private equity. Then shift the entire operation from Bajpe airport to new airport.
