Amit Shah's public meet at Goa airport complex triggers controversy

Panaji, Jul 2: Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah’s public meeting at the Goa Dabolim Airport complex has triggered a controversy with the opposition condemning the move and terming it as “gross misuse of power”.

On Saturday, a red-carpet welcome was rolled out for Shah by the BJP party workers at Dabolim airport. A podium, sound-system was arranged for Shah to address party workers. Though the impromptu meeting interfered with the functioning of airport activities and was a hurdle to other passengers, airport authority officials and security personnel chose to be passive onlookers.

The meeting took place in presence of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Union Minister Sripad Naik.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary Girish Chodankar lashed out at BJP and said that the party has lost the sense of good governance. “We strongly condemn the act of the BJP holding a meeting at the Goa airport complex which was addressed by their president Amit Shah in the presence of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar,” he said in a statement issued at Panaji.

Chodankar also demanded that the Airport Authority of India (AAI) conducts an investigation on its officials who issued clearances for the meeting.

Meanwhile, activist lawyer Aires Rodrigues said that he will be filing a complaint against Goa airport officials with the Airports Authority of India for flouting airport regulations. The civilian activates of the Dabolim Airport operates within the naval air base. The passengers who are being picked or dropped are not even allowed a five minutes halt.

“This is probably the first time a political meeting has taken place within the precincts of an airport anywhere in the country. Allowing a political meeting in an airport which is part of a defence establishment is not acceptable,” he added.

The BJP President, who is on a two-day visit to Goa, is scheduled to inaugurate BJP office in South Goa on Sunday.

A perfect holiday destination is slowly and steadily becoming launch pad for Sangh activity. Under CM Parrikar governance last month Goa held sixth All India Hindu Convention for Establishing a Hindu Rashtra was held at the headquarters of the Sanatan Sanstha in Ponda, Goa. The Sanatan Sanstha and HJS are functionally the same organisation, but are separately registered.Under HJS and 150 Hindu organizations from India and abroad had passed resolution to ‘Establish a Hindu Rashtra by 2023’ apart from for construction of a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya and a ban on cattle slaughter and religious conversions.
The state had announced the ban in 2015 after Muthalik threatened to stop “pub culture” in the tourist state, and it has been extending the ban ever since.
As the convention wound up on Saturday, a two-day meeting of lawyers to chalk out a roadmap for a legal strategy to “establish a Hindu Rashtra by 2023” got underway under the Hindu Vidhidnya (Lawyer) Parishad. This lawyers’ group counts the bail granted in April to Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur – accused of plotting the 2008 blasts in Maharashtra’s Malegaon town that left six people dead – as one of its victories. It has also represented Sanatan Sanstha members accused in the 2009 blast outside a church in Madgaon in Goa.
On October 16, 2009, a bomb went off in Madgaon, 17 km from Ponda. Two people carrying the bomb – Malgona Patil and Yogesh Naik – were killed when it went off prematurely. Both were members of the Sanatan Sanstha.
Since 2009, the sanstha has been accused of the murders of Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare. The accused in the Dabholkar case, Virendra Tawde, was acquitted for lack of evidence.
From Airport to beach side each passing day holiday destination BJP which promised of 'good governance' putting all out efforts to rule by mobocracy of Sangh..
May be soon President's office, Army command center may also receive orders from Nagpur to organise such meetings.
