Mangaluru, May 15: Srujana N, a student of Expert College, was felicitated here on Monday, May 15 at Expert College auditorium, for securing 596 out of 600 in science stream to become the state topper in the recently declared II PUC exams results.
Hailing from Tumakuru, Srujana N is the daughter of P Niranjan Kumar and Dr Nalini N. Nalini is the principal of Sri Devi Institute of Engineering and Technology Tumakuru, and Niranjan, a businessman. Srujana went on to score full marks in physics, chemistry, mathematics and computer science, 97 in English and 99 in Hindi.
Meanwhile, students of Expert College Annapoorna and Vishal Kishore were also felicitated for scoring 591 and 590 out of 600 respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, chairman of Expert College Narendra Nayak said, "We were unable to achieve top spots missing by one or two marks since the inception of the college in 2007. The credit of success goes to the hard work of the students, almighty’s blessings and also to the teachers of the college. The parents too need to be lauded for their decision to send students to expert college to become an expert.”
He also said, "The students have imbibed the qualities of their parents which reflect in their hard work and dedication. I have always advised students to concentrate on work and give their best which will result in name and fame following them. Srujana went on to score full marks in four subjects and Annapoorna scored full marks in five subjects.”
Retaliating to the criticism where some claimed that Expert College gave admission to those who score above 90% and reject students scoring lesser, Narendra Nayak said, "Before passing any comments, the critics should know that it is not easy to make a student to score 95% or above. Students score above 90% but rarely 95%. It is better to have interaction with the students and teachers about the hard work they have up in score above 95%.”
“Some say that we reject students who score fewer marks. For their information, this is a private unaided college where 50% of seats are under management quota and another 50% under merit quota. We follow the guidelines of roster system from government of India and before passing comments, people should be aware of this. A student named H Dishanth who hails from Surathkal had scored 77.9% in SSLC, but in PUC he went on to score 93.67% which shows that we even take students who score lesser,” he added.
“Some students waste their time in extra-curriculum activities and only if time allots, they study. We need to balance both extra-curriculum activities as well as the studies. Srujana will be felicitated in the presence of all dignitaries during ‘Expert Day’ on December 29,” informed Nayak.
A total of 1348 students had appeared for the II PU exams out of which 1341 students passed giving a pass percentage of 99.48 to the college. As many as 884 students passed with distinction, with 123 students scoring more than 95%, and 542 students scoring more than 90%.
Principal of Expert College Ramachandra Bhat welcomed the gathering.
Treasurer of Expert College Usha Prabha Nayak, trustee Suresh Pai and alumni Ankush Nayak were present.
Srujana will available LIVE at 7 pm tonight on Daijiworld TV's News Talk programme along with her parents and Narendra Nayak
