Moodbidri, Jan 15: A complaint stands filed in the local police station against winning Congress candidate in Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) election, Chandrahas Sanil, and others, about murder attempt on BJP candidate, Valerian Cutinho, who tasted defeat. Sanil and Cutinho had fought the election from Kallamundkur APMC constituency, result of which was announced on Saturday January 14.
Reportedly, Cutinho was attacked during the victory procession of the Congress. After Sanil came out victorious at the end of counting of votes, Congress workers had taken out a procession on Saturday. It is said that when the participants of the procession, who were raising slogans and burting crackers, reached Hosabettu, Valerian tried to interrupt the procession. Congress workers questioned Valerian about his right to do so, after which there was heated exchange of words, which ended in attack on Valerian Cutinho.
Valerian was initially treated at the government hospital in the town, after which he was taken to Mangaluru for advanced treatment, it is gathered. The police of the town station here have named Chandrahas Sanil, Jayaram Bangera, Santosh Shetty, Chetan and Deepak in the murder attempt case registered there.
Valerian, who happens to be a former Congress activist, had been elected in the previous gram panchayat election as a BJP-supported candidate. Valerian said in his complaint that he was moving with a friend in his motor bike on Saturday evening when the accused, who arrived there in a car, used filthy language against him before attacking him. Congressmen however, have been claiming that Valerian had created obstacles for the progress of their victory procession besides using abusive language against their party workers in a loud voice.
As per information, Congress workers are preparing to file a counter complaint against Valerian Cutinho.
