Dharwad, Jun 21: Police from the city commissionerate arrested another accused in connection with the murder of BJP zilla panchayat (ZP) member, Yogeesh Gowda, on Monday June 20. The arrested accused has been identified as Mahabaleshwar alias Mudakya Hongal (31), a native of Govanakoppa village.

With this, the number of arrests in this case has gone up to six. Mahabaleshwar had absconded after the murder of the above ZP member. Policemen, who tracked him and arrested him on Monday morning from Govanakoppa Road, said that he had not only played an important role in hatching the murder conspiracy, but had also taken part in the murder.

The five people who were arrested on Friday, namely Basavaraj Shivappa Mutagi, Vinayak Katagi, Vikram Ballari, Keertikumar Kurahatti and Sandeep alias Sandy were remanded to judicial court till July 4 by the JMFC court here. When they were presented to the court on June 18, the policemen said they wanted the custody of the accused for investigating the case. The court, based on the appeal, had given them to two days police custody. Now they are lodged in the central prison here.

Police officials said that Mahabaleshwar had scores to settle against Yogeesh Gowda as the two families quarrelled often.
