Bengaluru, May 20: For the third time, the Siddaramaiah regime has forwarded the name of Justice S R Nayak for the post of Karnataka Lokayukta to Governor Vajubhai R Vala.
Justice Nayak is presently serving as the Karnataka Law Commission chairman.
Governor Vala had twice turned down the State Government’s recommendation in favour of Justice Nayak for the post of State Lokayukta.
In the two earlier occasions, the Governor had sent file containing name of Justice Nayak for the post of the Lokayukta back to the State Goverment.
It is learnt that Vala, who is the appointing authority for the Lokayukta, has sought clarifications from the State Government on allotment of a residential plot in the Judicial Layout in the City to Justice Nayak.
The State Government justified the panel’s recommendation and clarified on all issues sought by the Governor.
But the Governor was reportedly not satisfied with the clarifications given by the Government and had written a three-page note to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and sent the file back.
Last year, the Governor turned down the State’s recommendation to appoint former High Court judge Justice K L Manjunath for the post of Upalokayukta.
The post of Karnataka Lokayukta has remained vacant following resignation of Justice Bhaskar Rao in December 8, 2015.
In another development, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H K Patil has called on the Governor on Friday and provided an explanation on the necessity of promulgating an ordinance on Karnataka State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) University.
