Udupi, Apr 7: District court imposed fine and imprisonment to a person accused in stealing power for his ice plant at Laxmi Nagar of Kodavooru gram.
The charge sheet stated that accused Dayanand from Kodavooru, Maharastra Vasai resident Mohammed Judiawala and Karwar district Honnavara resident Usman conspired to remove the seals of power plant cubical chambers and electric meter preventing record of the use of electricity in the meter. It is said that they stole 74,138 units of electricity worth Rs 6,94,057 between August 2005 and November 7, 2005.
The then Mescom Intelligence wing police station Udupi Inspector Ganesh M Hagade arrested the accused and filed a charge sheet under Column 135, 138 and 150 of 2003 to the court. District and session judge Shivashanker B Amaranna after questioning the accused pronounced the judgement.
First accused Dayanand H Kunder has been sentenced to six months imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,82,171 under electricity law column 135. Failure to pay the fine will attract another 6 months imprisonment. He will also be imprisoned for one year's imprisonment and Rs ten thousand fine under electricity law column 138. He will have to spend another 3 months in prison if he does not pay the fine. The court has acquitted second suspect Mohammed Jodiawala and third suspect Usman.
