Mangaluru, Apr 6: The new computer lab of the Karnataka Institute of Commerce and Computer (KIC) was inaugurated at Karnataka Christian Education Society (KACES) campus in Balmatta here on Tuesday April 5.
MLA of Mangaluru South constituency J R Lobo inaugurated the computer lab by lighting the lamp.
In his inaugural address, J R Lobo lauded the efforts of KACES which has continued to serve the society through its various institutions. "KACES was a famous institute even when I was a student and many students have studied here. KACES which is the fruit of Basel Mission is an important part of this city's history. Through the first Kannada dictionary and the first Kannada newspaper the Mission took the name of the city to greater heights. Since its beginning KACES has been serving the city through various job-oriented courses.
"There is a need for senior stenographers in various departments of the Karnataka government.
Earlier students used to consider shorthand and typing course as a job-oriented one but today's youngsters are not interested in it. This course will help youngsters procure government jobs and enable them build a secured career," he added.
He later on unveiled the study material of the new courses of the institute.
On this occasion, Karnataka Institute of Commerce felicitated its long serving staff, namely Jayanth who has been serving as typing instructor since 1976, Jasmine Usha Karkada who has been serving as typing Instructor since 1978 and Dora has been serving as typing instructor since 1985.
Appreciating the hard work and the commitment of J R Lobo, KACES officers him.
Rev Dr Honey Cabral, secretary KACES delivered the presidential address. He appreciated the initiative of Rev Sandeep Theophil under whose leadership this project was implemented and also sufficient funds raised.
Rev Sandeep Theophil, principal of the Institute delivered the vote of thanks.
Dr Anil Frederic Kumar welcomed the gathering.
Bishop Mohan Manoraj, CSI-KSD and others were present.
The Karnataka Institute of Commerce and Computer (KIC) is recognised by the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board. It offers job-oriented courses, mainly office automation course and graphic designer course (GDC/DTP).
