Mumbai, Sep 1: A crazy fan of Bollywood mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan attempted suicide outside his bungalow Jalsa in Mumbai on Wednesday August 29.
Star-crazed Ankur Singh from Kolkata consumed phenyl outside Bachchan's residence on Wednesday after he was not allowed to meet his idol a second time. “Agar Amitabh Bachchan is janam mein mere dost nahi bane, toh mere marne ki baad hi sahi (If Amitabh Bachchan cannot be friends with me in this life, let us be friends after my death)," he announced, somewhat dramatically, before consuming the liquid.
Cops rushed to the spot and took Singh to Cooper Hospital, where he was being treated. "We have booked Singh under Section 309 of IPC for attempting suicide. He is semi-conscious and is unable to give a detailed statement. We are not aware of his occupation or background details as yet. He will be arrested once he is discharged from the hospital," senior inspector Pradeep Shinde said.
Asked about the incident, Bachchan replied, "I was not at home at that time. Cops have all the details."
Bachchan was gracious enough to meet Singh last Saturday after the latter arrived at his Juhu bungalow, Jalsa, and pleaded with the security to let him in. He also paid Singh Rs 5,000 after coming to know that he had come all the way from Kolkata and must have incurred some expenses.
Singh, police officials said, had actually asked Bachchan for a "luxury car as a memento".
Bachchan was at home last Saturday and agreed to see Singh after security called him up on the intercom. He asked Singh where he came from and, before letting him go, asked his manager to 'gift' Singh Rs 5,000 after coming to know that the man had come all the way from West Bengal.
