Thank you readers: Little Dithi gets Rs 20 lac for liver transplant

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Oct 6: Time and again, readers of daijiworld have shown their large-heartedness and generosity by coming to the rescue of persons in need of financial assistance for medical treatment. Once again, daijiworld readers have risen to the occasion, this time to help a less fortunate child.

Daijiworld on September 2 had requested its readers to help baby Dithi from Balanja village in Beltangady taluk who has been suffering from end stage liver disease for the past 6 months and needed to get liver transplantation.

Dithi's 27-year-old mother Ratnavati is the donor of liver to her daughter. The doctors had opined that with the child having B-positive and the donor O-positive blood groups, the transplant was possible.

Dithi’s father Manohar Balanja is from an economically poor background, being an agriculturist who also works as a reporter for a newspaper. The total amount required is Rs 24 lac to Rs 28 lac. Due to the kind heartedness of daijiworld readers and other well-wishers, Dithi has already received Rs 20 lac, out of which Rs 10.6 lac has been deposited at the hospital where the transplant is to take place.

The transplant will take place soon at Narayana Hrudayalaya hospital in Bengaluru. Presently Dithi and her mother are going through expensive preliminary tests. The liver damage has also affected Dithi's other organs, and the surgery would be done after they heal, said Manohar. Also, she is suffering from low haemaglobin and low blood count, and is presently undergoing blood transfusion. In the next six weeks, she will be administered six injections, after which another complete examination would be done and the surgery for transplantation would take place. All necessary legal approvals for the transplant, which were difficult to obtain, have been obtained.

In a letter dispatched to daijiworld, Manohar has conveyed his gratitude to all the readers who responded positively to the appeal, saying their generosity and prayers would go a long way in helping his daughter in getting liver transplant.

We at Daijiworld thank each and every reader who contributed so generously to the cause and prayed for Dithi. We join our readers in wishing Dithi a successful surgery and pray that she gets well soon.
