Mumbai, Apr 2: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi has been officially reprimanded by the IPL authorities for his aggressive send-off to Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) Priyansh Arya during their thrilling encounter on Sunday. The incident occurred after Rathi dismissed Arya with a brilliant delivery, following which he celebrated in an animated manner that did not go down well with the match officials.

According to an IPL statement, Rathi was found guilty of breaching the IPL Code of Conduct relating to player behaviour. The spinner admitted to the Level 1 offence and accepted the sanction imposed by the match referee.

“It was a heat-of-the-moment reaction, and I have utmost respect for Priyansh Arya and the Punjab Kings team. I will be more mindful of my actions on the field in future,” Rathi said in an apology released through his franchise.

The incident, however, has sparked mixed reactions from fans and former cricketers. While some have defended Rathi’s passion and intensity, others have called for stricter adherence to the spirit of the game.

Priyansh Arya, known for his calm demeanour, shrugged off the incident, stating, “It’s all part of the game. Things happen in the heat of the moment, and we move on.”

The IPL authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining discipline and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

With the competition heating up, fans are eager to see how Digvesh Rathi responds to the criticism and whether the incident will affect his on-field performance in the upcoming matches.
