Panaji, May 16: Former Goa town and country planning minister and Congressman Babush Monserrate resigned from the Congress Party on the last day for filing the nominations, ahead of the forthcoming Goa assembly elections scheduled in June.

Monserrate announced his resignation from the Party and as a MLA on Tuesday evening at Panaji and re-filed his nomination as a United Goan Democratic Party Candidate and also filed as an independent from the Taleigao constituency.

Monserrate took this decision as his wife Jennifer Monserrate was denied Congress ticket in the Santacruz constituency, which has now been given to deputy speaker Victoria Fernandez.
Babush Monserrate also stated that the Congress party has no respect for the individuals and that he was humiliated on many occassions by senior office-bearers.
