Mangaluru, Nov 21: The annual day celebration for classes 1 to 5 of Lourdes Central School was held with great enthusiasm on Thursday, November 21, on the school grounds. Themed “Continents Apart – Hearts Together,” the event showcased a vibrant medley of cultural performances, celebrating the unity of diverse cultures across the globe.
The programme commenced with a melodious prayer song and an energetic welcome dance by students of classes 3, 4, and 5. Vice principal Belita Mascarenhas delivered the welcome address. The chief guest for the event was Suprabha M, principal of Trisha Evening College, Mangaluru. Dr John Baptist Saldanha, manager of Lourdes Central School, presided over the function.
Other dignitaries present included principal Fr Johnson L Sequeira, vice principals Belita Mascarenhas and Anitha Thomas, assistant parish priest of Bejai parish Fr Norman Mathias, Fr Vincent Sequeira, Bejai Parish Pastoral Parishad vice president Ashok Pinto, secretary Cynthia Avitha Pinto, PTEC secretary Shubha Jyotsna, deputy head boy Ankith Reuben D’Souza, and deputy head girl Ridhi Chowta.
Vice principal Belita Mascarenhas introduced the chief guest, who was felicitated by Dr John Baptist Saldanha, Fr Johnson L Sequeira, and other dignitaries. Principal Fr Johnson L Sequeira presented the annual report for the academic year 2024-25, highlighting the school’s achievements. vice principal Anitha Thomas proposed the vote of thanks.
In her address, chief guest Suprabha M expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the celebration and applauded the school’s role in nurturing students. She urged parents to spend quality time with their children, offering emotional and moral support, and emphasized the importance of fostering a positive mindset among students.
Dr John Baptist Saldanha, in his presidential address, commended the students and staff for their efforts. He remarked that Lourdes Central School stands out as a "happy school" due to the principal’s leadership, the dedication of the staff, and the collaboration among teachers, students, and parents. He reiterated the school’s motto, "Peace Through Knowledge," as a guiding principle for creating socially responsible leaders.
Cultural extravaganza
The cultural programme commenced with students presenting colorful and engaging performances, portraying the diversity of continents:
- Asia: Students of class 1 highlighted the rich traditions and vibrant cultures of countries like Japan, South Korea, the Arab world, Sri Lanka, and India.
- Africa: Class 2 students depicted Africa’s natural beauty, skilled people, and captivating landscapes.
- Europe: Class 3 students showcased Europe’s iconic landmarks, rich history, and cultural crossroads.
- North and South America: Class 4 students presented the diverse traditions and captivating spirit of these continents.
- Australia: Class 5 students beautifully portrayed the land’s unique wildlife, vibrant cities, and rich cultural heritage.
The stage programme was hosted by Eyan Lobo and Shravya Prabhu of class 5, while the cultural segment was compered by Paaravi, Joanna, Sahana, Atharv, Himani, Pradhyumna, Hrishikesh, and Arya. The event concluded with the junior choir group singing the school anthem.
The school management appreciated the efforts of all Lourdites from classes 1 to 5 for their spectacular performances, making the annual day a memorable celebration.
