Udupi, Nov 21: Department of Basic Science in association with NSS of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM) organised a session on “Constitutional values: Shaping India's future” on November 20 in the seminar hall of the admin block. Dr P Anantha Krishna Bhat, retired Professor, Canara College, Mangaluru was the resource person.
Renowned expert Dr P Anantha Krishna Bhat delivered an enlightening session on constitutional values, emphasising their significance in shaping India's democratic society. The session underscored the importance of safeguarding constitutional principles, ensuring the integrity of democratic institutions, and promoting social cohesion.
Dr Bhat highlighted the core values embodied in the Indian Constitution, including sovereignty, socialism, secularism, democracy, justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.
The session emphasised the Constitution's role in safeguarding citizens' rights and freedoms, ensuring the government adheres to democratic principles.
Dr Bhat discussed recent challenges to constitutional values, such as judicial overreach and subjective interpretations, and outlined steps for effective realization, including comprehensive definitions, objective standards, and active citizenship.
The session concluded with a call to action, emphasizing the collective responsibility to safeguard constitutional values and ensure India's democratic progress. His expertise and insights provided an understanding of the constitution's significance in shaping India's future.
Principal Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, dean academic Dr Nagaraj Bhat were presiding over the function and appreciated for conducting such a useful programme for the students.
The session was interactive and the students actively participated. Preethi, assistant professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering compered the session. More than 200 students and also faculty and staff of SMVITM were present in the programme.
