Mangaluru, May 11: Addressing a press meet at his office on Monday May 11, deputy commissioner A B IBrahim revealed, "In collaboration with Karnataka Fisheries Development Cooperation and College of Fisheries, Dr Shivaram Karantha Nisargadhama has planned a 'Fish Carnival'(Mastyaostava) on Sunday May 17 around 9 am at Pilikula Park."
He added, "This is an effort to attract people in and around the city to the park in their leisure hours. During the carnival, a fish angling contest will be conducted for fish catchers from the park's lake. At the contest the person who catches fish of maximum weight will be given the same as the prize and other fish catchers should give 50% of their catch to Nisargadhama. Those who are interested can take take part by paying a registration fee of Rs 100."
N G Mohan, governing council member of Dr Shivaram Karanth Pilikula Nisargadhama said, " A ramp to angle the fish has been installed. At a time three people can take part in the contest from the ramp and others can fish around the lake."
Jayaprakash Bhandary said that fish catchers should bring sophisticated angling equipment and not the traditional equipment.
