Bantwal, Apr 21: The heated discussion among members on whether the president or the chief official of the municipal council should provide information on distribution of gas cylinders to those who do not have such connections, turned to verbal insults in the general meeting of the Municipal council chaired by council president Vasanti Chandappa on Monday, April 20.
Sadashiva Bangera, member of ruling party and independent member, Praveen indulged in heated discussions which later turned to verbal insults while other members could only see them. The president had to intervene in order to put an end to it.
The abusive language used in the presence of the president by a person against a member who had gone to object to a bore well dug without official permission caused wide discussions in the meeting. Ward member lady engineer was severely taken to task in the meeting.
Member Chanchalakshi, taking up the topic, objected to engineer Prabha Devi for digging a bore well in front of her house without her knowledge. The member informed in the meeting that former council member Rafik has insulted her in the presence of president. The member lamented that the people do not respect the members. Chanchalakshi regretted that the president left the place without responding to the insult meted out to her.
The ruling party members threw a series of allegations against the contractor, Sharath Shetty, for not clearing trash. They alleged that he does not clear trash properly and does not respond to telephone calls and demanded that he be replaced. They asked the opposition party members why they support him even after blacklisting him.
Members also spoke of drinking water problem in various places and Devadas Shetty alleged that the officials have remained indifferent to the problem.
Vice president Yasmeen and chief official Leena Britto were on the dais. Members Vasu Poojary, Sadashiva Bangera, Govinda Prabhu, Ramakrishna Alva, Gangadhara, Praveen B, Mohammed Nandarabettu, Chanchalakshi, iqbal, Jagadish Kunder, Mohammed Shareef and Bhaskar Tailor took part in the discussion.
