Muscat, Feb 17: Oman’s leading website, timesofoman.com, on Friday emerged winner in the Media and Press category of the Oman Web Awards 2006 at a ceremony held at Crown Plaza.
Cariappa A A, web editor, received the golden award from Amit Sampat, director of Gazelle International and director - business development, Naranjee Hirjee.
The Times of Oman website, timesofoman.com offers a wide range of features and sports an uncluttered look.

“I am happy that our website offers readers a modern online experience that includes easy-to-access features,” said Ahmed Essa Al Zedjali, CEO of the Times of Oman, delighted at having won the award. Our site also offers reader interaction which is something we’ll be further expanding in the future,” he added.
“The state-of-the-art new timesofoman.com website, which was launched on November 18, 2006, offers latest news, exclusive columns, online classifieds, RSS feeds, and discussion forum,” said Cariappa. “With its sleek design, visitors to timesofoman.com will experience more content in the form of news, photo gallery, and services.
“The website also contains flight timings, current weather, horoscope and newsletter. Visitors are allowed to log in to the website and customise their preferred content and services,” he added.
Developed by Bluecode, the IT wing of Muscat Press and Publishing House, the website was built using state-of-the-art technology to usher in a new browsing experience for readers. With the website, the readers can conveniently reach the stories they want since it offers improved navigation facilities.
The website also offers online advertising opportunities for local and international businesses. The endeavour of timesofoman.com is to reach more people and be a competitive player in the online arena in the region.
