Beltangady: Five who robbed and tortured farmer arrested

Beltangady, Feb 21: Five persons, who reportedly attacked a farmer, robbed him of money, and tortured him by repeatedly dipping him him in river water stand arrested. The arrested persons have been identified as Uday Kumar P V (22), resident of Padankal House in Bedrabettu in Indabettu village, Praveen (21), from Kariyalu House in Malavantige village, Naveen Kumar (20) from Padekody House in Savanalu village, Anil (21) from Bangadi House in Indabettu village, and Gururaj (21), a resident of Uppinakere House in Bedrabettu.

It is learnt that Sadashiva Gowda (60) from Bedrabettu had sold areca nut grown by him on Tuesday February 17 at the nearby Killur town. When he was returning home with sale proceeds, six unknown persons in three motor bikes, who approached Gowda, offered to drop him to his house. Even after Gowda hesitated, they forced him to get seated on one of the motor bikes. When the vehicles reached near the bank of Killur river in Mittabagilu village, they forcibly took away cash in Gowda's possession, attacked him, and dipped him in river water a few times, it is said.

Gowda had complained to the police, on the basis of which these arrests were made. The policemen are investigating the case.
