Kundapur, Feb 18: A youth has been arrested and remanded into judicial custody under POSCO Act for sexually harassing a minor girl.
It is learnt that the accused got the phone number of the girl when she had gone to recharge her phone in the shop run by the accused. Initially, it was just missed calls but then it turned out to be real calls. After sometimes, he befriended her and took her to Bengaluru and allegedly harassed her sexually.
The accused is arrested by Kundapur station police, based on a complaint by the girl and produced in the court. The court has ordered for his judicial custody.
The accused has been identified as Bharath Mogaveera, a resident of Talluru Kelahitlu of Talluru gram panchayat limits in Kundapur Taluk. The suspect Bharath Mogaveera has a mobile shop in Koteshwara. The minor victim girl belonging to another community is a resident Hangaluru and a student of a college in the city.
The girl was missing a few days ago and could not be found even after an intense search by the house people. A police complaint was registered in the women’s police station at the end.
The girl had gone to Bengaluru trusting the accused and he allegedly tried to rape her as per sources. Meanwhile, the girl informed her house people that she was in Bengaluru and the house people have immediately informed the police. The police who swung into action have brought them back.
As the case comes under POSCO Act, the girl has been produced in the Udupi court. The judge after listening to the statement of the girl has ordered for judicial custody of the accused Bharath Mogaveera.
It is said that Bharath Mogaveera is a notorious criminal and was jeering young girls as per locals who had advised him against it.
